Planting Programmes

Revegetation as a means of weed replacement forms the core component of Te Ngahere's revegetation work. A minimal interference approach is adopted for all the companies restoration work, including revegetation planting.

Te Ngahere recognise the primary function of revegetation is to assist and promote natural ecological processes. Nonetheless in sites where vegetative cover is particularly fractured, adjacent seed sources are minimal and /or a weed issue exists, revegetation is often required.

Planting programmes Te Ngahere are involved with include:

  •  forest diversity and enhancement plantings
  •  riparian / stream management and protection
  •  wetland creation or enhancement
  •  weed replacement / suppression plantings
  •  reintroduction of locally extinct plant species as appropriate
  •  buffering of vulnerable habitat or areas of high ecological value
  •  establishing wildlife corridors

Our staff are skilled in plant layout and habitat relationships, specialist planting techniques and are all experienced, knowledgeable planters.

Revegetation Maintenance

Revegetation programmes require ongoing monitoring and maintenance to ensure the objectives of the project are achieved, and to allow for management regimes to be modified as a project evolves.
Te Ngahere provide the following revegetation maintenance services:

  •  plant releasing (i.e. physical and chemical methods)
  •  the control of invasive weed species (using hand-removal (pulling), cut and painting and / or spot spraying methods)
  •  replacement planting (i.e blanking)

Te Ngahere also provide a Monitoring Service that includes revegetation monitoring work and the implementation thereof.
