Mike is managing the South Island Branch of Te Ngahere.
With a background in construction and landscaping Mike gained a Bachelor of
Parks and Recreation Management from Lincoln University.
He then worked for the Department of Conservation as a Conservation Officer on Rangitoto
Island and relieving ranger for Little Barrier and Tiritiri Matangi Islands.
He left DOC in 1996 to set up Te Ngahere.
Mike has been active in the field since Te Ngahere’s inception and his skills
have evolved with the industry, he has a working knowledge of the standards and
procedures required to complete the work undertaken by the company and has a sound
understanding of the companies legal obligations.
He has had 12 years experience in planning and executing projects in isolated and remote areas,
the majority of which have involved the use of helicopters.
Mike has a current First Aid certificate, Stage 2 Industrial Rope Access qualification
from Tai Poutini Polytechnic and has completed
Basic and Advanced Helicopter Safety and Ariel Lifting Support Courses through Skywork Helicopters Ltd.
Mike is a director of Te Ngahere and the manager of the South Island branch,
he is passionate about balancing conservation with recreation provision and his preferred
recreational pursuits take him away from crowds, to the snow and the sea, where he is very happy to
be climbing, skiing or fishing.
