Weed Control in Bush and
Natural Areas Contract (WCBNA)

Client: Auckland City Council (ACC)
Project Duration:   2001 - 2006

This innovative contract was developed in 2001 to provide a more effective and coordinated approach to the management of invasive weeds throughout some of Auckland City's most important forest remnants.

ACC identified the quality of both the consultancy work and physical weed control services Te Ngahere completed for ACC during the period of 1999-2001 as principal drivers behind the formation of this contract.

A requirement of this contract was to carry out annual photo point monitoring and vegetation plot monitoring. This included:

  •  selecting sample reserves to represent the focal 24 bush
and natural areas for vegetation plot monitoring.
  •  formulating suitable methodologies to help select vegetation plot
     location and photopoint sites.
  •  preparing robust indicators to measure the change in the composition and abundance
     of native and exotic vegetation.
  •  annual data collection
  •  analysis of results
  •  working to nominated budgets and timeframes
  •  first class health and safety measures / processes
