Environmental Weed Control in Regional Parks
Client: Auckland Regional Council
Project Duration:
2001 - ongoing
The Auckland Regional Council (ARC) contracts a "remote location" ecological restoration team to
control invasive weed species throughout the ARC Parkland network. This work involves the
removal of key plant pests within sites such as Tawharanui, Mahurangi, Wenderholm, Waitakere,
Hunua and Awhitu Regional Parks.
|
Service requirements include:
- control of high priority weed species throughout the regional parks
- intensive grid searches and provision of weed surveys / maps and inventory lists
- working in isolated areas, extreme terrain and inclement weather
- regular reporting
|
ARC staff closely monitor control work completed and continual positive feedback has seen
these contracts being extended annually, along with the inclusion of new Parks and sites.
Te Ngahere staff have developed considerable site-specific knowledge of weed infestations
within the ARC Parks with ongoing folow-up control a core component of the ARC contracts.
