For us, environmental impact is as much an aesthetic consideration as it is ecological and this is reflected
in the structure's relationship to the contours of the land, the existing vegetation, waterways and the overall flow
of movement.
A good structure is not only well built but well integrated and harmonious with the
environment.
The Experience
When we remove the operational and functional aspects from the picture
(i.e. "keeping your feet dry" or "to get to the other side") we are left with the
recreational experience. This is of course the impetus behind the majority of bushwalks,
to enjoy and revel in the natural environment.
A Canopy Walkway is not so much essential
pedestrian transport as it is sensual transport. It services our inquisical desire to be
somewhere previously inaccessible, somewhere out there, - out there on a Mangrove Boardwalk or
meandering through the giant Puriri and Kahikatea trees of Smiths Bush. In these examples
the experience is available whether you are young, old, walking or in a wheelchair.
Regardless of the type of structure required it is essential to minimise environmental impact,
this begins in the planning stage with appropriate design and continues to construction where we
are continually refining and developing our methods accordingly.
